Since its creation in 2024, Camí de l'Espoir has been acting on a daily basis thanks to the support of its members and volunteers.

Our objective:

The promotion of the history of Catalonia by establishing active and participatory links between Southern Catalonia (Spain), Northern Catalonia (France), with a particular emphasis on the historical event of the Retirada and the Republican exile of 1939.

In February 1939, in snowy weather, it was by these paths that more than 450,000
people fled the Franco regime, crossing the border through the passes

INTO OBLIVION!

Every year, more than 1200 Catalan students from schools in the province of Girona and Occitania, many anonymous people, descendants of exiled grandparents come to discover this path of exile, a very important place, trodden by their ancestors.

A path devoid of its history which leaves without answers those who came to seek a part of their past.

JOURNEY OF EXILE

In order to document the journey of Exile, implementation of visual supports on the border route of the paths of Exile, relating the successive periods of history, associated with modern, visual and sound and multilingual means of communication. These supports will also offer testimonies of Exiles, children and grandchildren in the form of photos, videos.

HOPE

Tomorrow, these decorated Totems will be able to give the descendants of Exiled grandparents a part of their past, by remembering these precise moments when they left their whole life behind them by crossing this border, a very important place representing a future life of HOPE.
