Manrella Pass Memorial (Lluis Companys) Monument built by the Commission of Acts in Memory of former President Companys, to commemorate the latter's passage in January 1939, on the road to exile. It was inaugurated in 1981, at the Manrella Pass, on the border line with France. On October 15 of each year, the date on which Lluís Companys was shot in Montjuïc in 1940, a tribute is dedicated to him. Back Map

Monument of Exile Bronze sculpture that pays tribute to the exiles. It is the only monument dedicated to the exile to France. It represents a man and his 6-year-old daughter who lost a leg in the bombings of Franco's troops in Montsó in November 1937. They were heading towards Prats de Molló, which they reached after an odyssey lived with thousands of exiles. Their terrible journey was immortalized by the photo of a foreign journalist and became the symbol of exile and the origin of the Vajol monument. Back Map

At the end of the Spanish Civil War, Franco's troops, supported by the Italian army and the German Nazis, swept away the last pockets of Republican resistance. Crossing the border at Pertus: a journey of suffering In Pertus, the situation is particularly dramatic . This small village, located at the foot of the mountains, becomes a main crossing point for refugees fleeing Spain. The conditions are horrible. Upon arrival at the border, refugees face physical, political and human obstacles that make their crossing of the pass extremely difficult. Thousands of people, exhausted and hungry, walk on congested roads, often in rain and snow, in freezing temperatures. The overwhelmed French authorities did not anticipate the scale of the refugee influx and did not have the means to manage this massive influx.
